3rd 3D model - August (Summer)

August

My final 3D model which represents Summer. For this month I will will create an icecream, a table and two glass.

To begin with my icecream, I started creating a cone which was the more obvious to make. I then added three spheres which will be the icecream that goes on top of the cone. To make the icecream melt all I did was convert it to a poly and then used Soft Selection to drag certain areas around the sphere to make it melt.

I’ve finished adding my three icecream flavours onto the cone. I needed to create the cone more realistically. To do so I’ve used the Vertex to amend the cone into a more realistic look.
To start of with the glass I draw a curvy line in verticals to get the shape. Then I select the modifier window and apply Lathe which gives me this. Above all my models I set an Omni Light effect to shine.

This is where I create my straw, I select a cylinder and set its Radius to 3.185
and Height to 112.69. Then I use Bend modifier and set its Angles 90 which looks like this.
This is the drink which is a cylinder and is placed in the glass along with the straw. To create the glass itself I go to Material Editor and set the Glossiness to 56 and level 92. Then I click on Maps and tick Refraction and there you have it my glass is complete.

This is how the glass look like.

This is how I’ve created the wooden material from the Material Editor. On Maps I selected Diffuse Color, Specular Color and Bump to set its Coordinates and Wood Parameters.

On Diffuse Color this is what I need to set for the Tiling, Angle, Grain Thickness, Radial Noise and Axial Noise.

I repeat the same settings for Specular Level.

The settings for Bump is going to be different.

After that this is how it should look like.

Now I drag the wooden material effect to my table and should look like this.

My last 3D model for this calendar month was actually my first model I have started creating on. It is the best model I have ever done and this was a challenging task to do, creating glass and the wooden material for the table.

My ideas was originally an icecream with the background as a beach but to make it more interesting I’ve decided to create not just an icecream but include two sets of glass on a table. The table was sophisticated as I’ve tried to create the stand by extruding it from a cylinder but it never worked out as planned. Again with the help from some tutorials, I found it very useful. Overall I’ve enjoyed working on this one.

2nd 3D Model - April (Easter)

April

This is my second calendar month of April which represents Easter. For my assignment I’ve decided to create a 3D model of a basket full of Easter eggs in it including a background with a tree and grass as the layout.

To begin with I first create a cylinder shape, then set its parameters from the Modify panel as Radius: 14, height: 24, segments: 5, cap segments: 1 and the sides: 18.

What I’ve done next is converting it to Mesh and then set to Polygon. I then click on the top and deleted it to make a hole for the basket.

I’ve added Taper modifier and set its parameters to its Amount: 0.7 and its curve: 0.15

Then I’ve added its lattice modifier which will look like this.
Now if I set the parameters for the Struts and the Joints I then create slim bars which will look like this.

To start of creating a land, I first select the plane from the control panel. Before adding grass, I need to convert it to a polygon and then drag and move its verticals around to get the correct adjustment in making a land.

Once the land is done, I then need to add grass. In doing this I change the Standard Primitives to AEC Extended.

To create a piece of grass I first create a cone. By adjusting the right size I want, I simply enter 1 for Radius 1, 0 for Radius 2 and 40 for the Height.

I then select Bend from the modifier panel and set the cones angle to -14.0.

To scatter around the plane I simply go to Compound Objects and select Scatter. Then I also click on Instance from the Pick Distribution Object. Now to finally scatter the grass I type in 200 for Duplicates. I also another cone and repeated the same method from the previous one and this is how it should look like when rendering.

To start of I’ve created a sphere with there parameters Radius: 2.5cm, Segments: 3.2 this is the size of what the egg should look like. I then convert it into on Editable Poly by right clicking it.

In the modify panel in the selection part I select Vertex. This will allow me to view all parts of the shape in vertexes, which allows me to drag the top of the sphere and form it into an egg shape.

Opening the soft selection I check the “Use Soft Selection” and then set the Falloff volume to 3.2cm. I’ve also used colour materials to create the eggs with covers on it.

Another 3D model I have included is a rabbit. This was a very simple structure to make. I simply used a lot of Spheres and couple of Lines to develop this.

To finish off my model I’ve added a Bitmap image for my background which all needed to do is click on the Environment Map. I’ve also added a tree to make it more a natural environment.

That is my final completion of my Calendar month of April.

For this calendar month my second attempt I’ve find this one more challenging as I decided to create a basket for the Easter eggs. With help from tutorials, again I learnt new techniques and materials of creating this. I found creating the grass and the rabbit was easy to implement.

1st 3D model - December (Christmas)

December

This is my first calendar month for December. This represents a happy, cold and relaxing mood. In order to make this month I’ve decided to create a snowman, Santa Claus, an elf, a moon and add some snow background falling from the sky.

To begin with, I start with a Plane and convert it to a Polygon and drag to set its size.

To start working on my snow I open up Material Editor, choose white for Diffuse, Specular Level 10 and set Color to 15.

Selecting Maps, I then click None from Bumps and open up a dialogue box of Map Browser. Next I select Mix.

From the Mix Parameters, I click on None from Color #1. Again the Map Browser dialog box opens and I select Cellular. This is how the snow effect should look like.

From the Cell Characteristics I select Chips and set its size to 0.1

Now my snow should look like this.

This was a very simple and easy snowman to create. I have used Spheres, cylinders and a cone.

The body of the snowman, I simply converted to a Polygon and dragged it down to make a dent on its neck so that the head can be placed on top.
To create Santa Claus, I’ve used many Spheres to create the head, body, eyes, legs and shoes.

The hat was create from a cone and the angle was set to -98.0 and its direction is -26.0.

The beard was the difficult one to do. The method I used to create this was add a Sphere and convert it to a Polygon and drags it X’s, Y’,s and Z’s around to form a beard. This was the best I can do but overall it I am proud of it.

The elf wasn’t difficult to make, I’ve repeated the same method creating Santa Claus and part the only difference between them is the elf does not have a beard but with pointy ears. I used a Triangle to do this.
Overall creating this model for this calendar month I find it interesting and fun to make. I felt that using various online tutorials it has really helped me gain some experience and has been really helpful to me. Creating snow I have no knowledge about and where to start off but with the tutorials I’ve learnt a lot and pleased with this attempt. The snowman, Santa Claus and the elf was no problem at all.

Lighting

This was a very quick and easy effect to do. All I needed was to use the lighting effect and place it at the right direction and distance and the light effect should shine the teapot at the bottom left as shown below.

Using Materials

This is my first attempt on using the colour effects on shape and objects. Here I have created two spheres which contains colours. The blue sphere may look like it is just blue itself but it is also combined with white colour. Using Material Editor I used Specular Level and Glossiness to add an effect on the sphere. The green sphere also has two more colours combined with it, blue and yellow. There are three more shapes that I have used with patterns of colour combined.

Mood Board

December

This image shows a happy day, event and month as Christmas is described to be a wonderful event in this month. I've used this cake image providing a strawberry and some jelly beans to decorate the cake to be delicious.

April

Is another happy day/event for this month and Easter is described as enjopying, happy, pleasant and tremendous day. I've used this rabbit image adding a hat, two Easter eggs and one in a box container.

August

This mood of the month is described as happiness again enjoying the wonder sun at the beach through Summer. I've added an extremely hot sun image to justify that the weather over Summer be hot. Just to make it this borad funny I've added a image of a man buring in flames because of the hot sun. :)

Second Week - How I did on the new modelling techniques

This week I've learnt alot more by drawing any kind of shape or object and converting it to a 3D shape. All it needed is to convert it to a edittable ploy and adjust the edges to create a sword shape. I've also included a text above which is converted to a poly aswel and then extrude it to make a nice adaptable 3D model.

This is well......was suspose to be a bowl but I preffered it to be called a lamp.

My first 3D model

This is my first attempt using 3D Studio Max for
this semester. To begin creating an apple, I've started drawing a sphere which views like a ball. It needed some effect in which I've right-clicked it into a poly so that it can be edited into however shape or size I want. I've then used the soft smooth tool that converts the sphere so that I can drag it to create an apple.

Once the shape of the apple is complete I've then begin the next part is into creating a stem. To do so I create a cone then rotate it to about 30 degrees and then fiddle the size by dragging to the right dimension.

Once thats completed I've then created a cylinder for the surface so that the apple can be placed above it. To make it more interesting, I've also included a donut and placed it next to the apple.

I feel that my attempt was a good start and my 3D models still needs some improvement. But overall I hope to gain and learn more with this experience as time goes through.
